The Figurative series reflects an evolution in sculpting with wire mesh, from the early rigid forms, to the more dense and voluminous figures which followed. Integrating elements of perspective and creating monumental artwork was explored while studying with Pol Bury at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Paris - both "L'Escalier" and and the large-scale work, "Woman Waiting" were created during this period. The artwork of this series commonly depicts scenes of everyday life, often with an underlying symbolic quality: each step of "L'Escalier" represents a higher level of evolution, from the lower steps of misdeeds and addictions, to the upper-level which presents a more positive shift towards clearing and cleaning.
