Early work such as “Building” presents an X-ray vision of diverse scenes co-existing in close proximity, enabling the viewer to perceive inner and outer spaces simultaneously. Initial sculpting with this relatively inflexible wire mesh material resulted in raw and unrefined forms and figures, a kind of sculptural equivalent of gesture drawing. Created while working an office job at The Whitney Museum, NY, this building’s second floor reflects a personal daily routine. “Building” portrays varied settings from one level to another, including an art gallery, and an office furnished with bulky computers of the day.
