The Earth series addresses an urgency towards greater attentiveness in safeguarding the health of our planet. It was created during a smoke-filled summer with ongoing wildfires in the Southern Oregon area. “Earth Calling” was sculpted in a temporary kitchen workspace, in order to avoid a smoky upstairs studio. Based on the mundane symmetry of a soccer ball, this work takes on an animate quality as it rotates, at times appearing to cry out.
